Please do not change "Austic" to "autistic" (or worse, 'person with autism'.... ONLY Autism with a capital A is the RESPECTFUL form for those that identify with the community... just like Deaf (big D) people are members of the Deaf community (some even who are hearing but many in their family are not hearing, and they have integrated into the Deaf culture as fluent in sign language and Deaf advocacates , but some people who go deaf in late age, never integrated into that community so use deaf (little d).

"...[C]apitalize the word "Autistic" as if it were a proper adjective, for the same reason the Deaf and Blind communities capitalize the respective adjectives "Deaf" and "Blind." We do it for the same reason Black people often capitalize that word. We capitalize it as a proper adjective or noun to represent our community and our identity." [1]

"On the contrary, people-first structure has received criticism, as it has potential to uphold dis/ability stigma and inherently assumes the dis/ability is unfortunate (Brown, 2011). Decreasing emphasis on dis/ability can position it as a deficit (Conlin, 2019). This approach also acknowledges that dis/ability is not optional and is often an influential factor to one’s identity (Brown, 2011; Liebowitz, 2015). Further, some communities have collectively decided on upholding identity-first language, such as the D/deaf and A/autistic communities (Brown, 2011; Wachsler, 2012). To understand the un/capitalization of Deaf and Autistic, please refer to the National Association of the Deaf’s blog post, Community and Culture – Frequently Asked Questions and activist, Sharon Wachsler’s blog post, Languaging Disability: Where Do "Ability" and "Dis/Ability" Fit In?. In line with the overall people-first approach, allowing those who are subjects of dialogue to determine the language used is the highest standard. If not possible, determining to choose people- or identity-first language should be approached with nuance and respect."- [2] (pg 9) (since i wrote this stub, Autistic Person is part of allowing those subject of the dialogue to determine the language used as the HIGHEST STANDARD.)

And while on the subject, I am also not a "Fen with autism":

"....When we say “person with autism,” we say that it is unfortunate and an accident that a person is Autistic. We affirm that the person has value and worth, and that autism is entirely separate from what gives him or her value and worth. In fact, we are saying that autism is detrimental to value and worth as a person, which is why we separate the condition with the word “with” or “has.”.... Yet, when we say “Autistic person,” we recognize, affirm, and validate an individual’s identity as an Autistic person. We recognize the value and worth of that individual as an Autistic person — that being Autistic is not a condition absolutely irreconcilable with regarding people as inherently valuable and worth something. We affirm the individual’s potential to grow and mature, to overcome challenges and disability, and to live a meaningful life as an Autistic. Ultimately, we are accepting that the individual is different from non-Autistic people–and that that’s not a tragedy, and we are showing that we are not afraid or ashamed to recognize that difference." See: [3].

Anything other that "Alchemia is an Autistic fan..." is outright disrespectful of any editor who does so, and Fanlore as a whole for not providing basic training like how to respectfully refer to people.

oh, and while on Fanlore's grave faults....

Something I have wished to put behind me but cannot because of the ripple effect it has has is that Fanlore's lack of educating editors on how to do their work respectfully ENDAGERS FEN.

By not training editors to not archive entire websites on archives that are known for ignoring copyright international law will not remove potentially revealling/damaging/life altering archived pages if found by the wrong person (and thus - iknow, i tried ). ONLY archives that respect copyright and takedown requests, or fanlore's own archive service should be used- NOTHING ELSE. By letting editors use whatever they want to archive, including those that do NOT opperate under the Bernie convention (or better yet, on Fanlore etc's own servers) it prevents fen from having personal, potentially damaging information promptly removed to protect them!

This unfortunately happened to me with not just multiple entire novel length stories art artwork (contributing in part to a long delay in updates due in part to Bugland and I not wanting any more of our stuff copied indescriminately- So anyone who enjoyed our work, THANK FANLORE in part for the lengthy delay (and having to log in every time to our site.... if fanlore made clear this would prevent archiving (rether than a 'come stuff here is (c)'d... DO NOT ARCHIVE!) i'd have done it sooner, but having seen the discussions leading up to fanlore etc on livejournal, I thought they'd respect obvious requests, in fact some of what was copied contained copyrighted material mixed in on the site, as well as friend and family photographs- DESPITE a clear message to NOT ARCHIVE ANYTHING on the sites (multiple domain sites on one server but someone found a way to get to the nonfandom ones and thought it appropiate to back those up too!).... Your editors ignored this, put my multiple sites (some not fandom related at all) on archives that refuse to remove anything- not even with court order as they are out of the country and their countries ignore copyright law / Bernie convention.....this resulted in getting me kicked out of a local pet group for being a 'pedo' for writting 'chan' (like a murder mystery wrier is somehow a murderer, right?) because someone was able to connect the names.... and it is a very concervative city and I am now HARASSED ALMOST DAILY by several neighbours to the point that leaving my house has become dangerous.

It is absolutely unforgiveable on the parts of editors and fanlore as a whole.... I remember on Livejournal when talk of Fanlore, AO3 etc began with grand intentions, and safeguarding fandom, fen, and our identities.... and now you have fallen so far, caring more about growth at the expense of the fen you build your little empire on the backs of, not caring who you hurt... not reaching out when they have said so or have difficulty knowing where to report it due to the Trauma (which I can only by experience relate to RAPE (of my identity, my safety both physically and emotionally)... a big reason I have avoided returning here, until I saw the absolutely DEPERSONALISING use of 'autistic' vs 'Autistic') Even IF I could find who to report it to.... it doesnt matter, because Fanlore has no way to remove the archived personal material from multiple sites of mine from archives in other countries that they do not own.

Fanlore acts first- without care of who they hurt- and maybe if you are lucky, they'll... IDK.... i never heard of anyone getting any kind of apology at the LEAST, which does nothing anyway to undue the damage.... maybe block the editors that show carelessness in archiveing? Set up your own archive? Provide training to editors on how not to accidently harm fen?

I have avoided this site for years until I saw the absolutely REPUGNANT change of 'Autistic" to 'autistic'. I cam only to correct that, and while here, felt it appropiate to explain yet again, for those that dont read my website or journal, the severe DAMAGE fanlore has done to this, and probably MANY OTHER fen.

If I could delete EVERY entery I started or editted here, I defitly would... you used me as both material to write about and as an editor, and when you hurt me, you cast me under the bus.... You are NOT a friend to Fen ANYWHERE under your current mode of operation. NO FAN ANYWHERE should support you with contributions of fincial aid.

Hey there Alchemia. I can't speak much for the rest of it, but I am deeply sorry for the hurt caused in changing 'Autistic' to 'autistic' when adding the internal link. I assure you it wasn't done with any form of malice. I suspect this may be a difference in spaces perhaps, or some kind of intracommunity issue I'm not aware of? The Autistic community I interact with on Tumblr and in real life all use 'autistic' with a lower case when describing both themselves and the community, and it generally seemed to be of the consensus in the community that it didn't have to be capitalised. I knew absolutely not to put 'with autism', as well as to capitalise 'Black' and 'Deaf' - though I will admit I do sometimes forget for these last two, especially for the latter. Perhaps there's an element of regional or generational differences too? Regardless, I once again apologise for the hurt I caused in changing it, and I wish you well. -- OfMonstersAndWerewolves (talk) 14:45, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
