Takaishi Takeru is one of the eight Chosen Children from Digimon Adventure. In the American dub, he's called 'TK'. He's Ishida Yamato's younger brother and his Digimon partner is Patamon. Takeru inherits the crest of Hope from Homeostasis. It is also revealed later in the series that he's the narrator in Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02.

Canon

In the first part of the original anime, Takeru is the youngest of the group, often seen as a younger brother by the other characters. He then takes a more protective role after Yagami Hikari is introduced as the least experienced one in all matters Digimon. Takeru returns as one of the main characters in 02. He also has a role in Tri, the stage play, and Kizuna. He's also going to show up in the 2023 Digimon movie: Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning.

He's the only one of the main eight children to watch his partner die.

Fandom

A great part of the Digimon fandom loves to explore the nuances in Takeru's personality. The duality between the happy-go-lucky hopeful child and his hidden darkness and frustrations is something that seems to attract many fans to the boy.

Of all of the Tokyo Chosen Children, Takeru is lucky enough to get significant attention for two full series from beginning to end, and his character also goes through some drastic changes in the process, especially through Adventure and 02. There’s so much going on with him that it makes it hard to give a short answer to the question “what is Takeru like?” because there’s so much you could say about him at so many different times.[1]

One of the biggest Takeru jokes in the fandom is his love for the most outlandish styles of hats.[2][3][4][5] [6]

Because of TK, I started collecting hats.[7]

Relationships

Fans are fond of the relationship between the Takaishi/Ishida brothers, but Takeru is often seen as the surrogate younger brother of the rest of the core seven children as well. Interactions in the 02 group are generally more on the same level, partly due to them being closer in age, though the closeness/animosity between characters varies in different parts of the fandom. Patamon and Takeru's relationship is also often depicted in fanworks.

Romantically, Takari is one of the most popular ships in the fandom. Daikeru also attracts a good number of fans, though on a very smaller scale, and mostly from those that come to fandom from the subtitled version of the anime.
