What is Superstition?

Superstition is a fic series written by Superstition_hockey. It is set in a nebulous future time, although the reader can tell it is not too far in the future because Brent Burns and Claude Giroux are still playing. When the main character (Luc Chantal) is drafted to the NHL, Sidney Crosby has just recently retired.

Summary of the Original Superstition Series

Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada: Luc Chantal is a hockey prodigy. He meets his best friend, Oliver Jackson, on the first day of Mite practice (8 and under). They are inseparable after this. Luc believes the "hockey gods" are real, and he consistently prays to them, even going so far to sneak away with Jacks to a place said to be sacred to the hockey gods and leave offerings.

Chants thinks of himself as straight, while Jacks is gay and comes out to Chants when they are 16. Chants and Jacks get married after the NHL draft when they are 18, and it is implied/believed in part by Chants that they do it to seal their vow to win the Stanley Cup together despite having been drafted to separate teams.

Throughout the course of the fic series, Chants embraces his bisexuality, embraces his polyamory and negotiates a polyamorous relationship with Jacks, and discovers and embraces that he is aromantic. He also begins a serious, long-term relationship with a surfer named Crash, who becomes close friends with Jacks and eventually is one of the parents of their children. Later, Chants also enters into a serious, long-term relationship with a former model named Svetlana, and introduces her to the man she will eventually marry and have many children with.

The year before Chants is RFA, he is accidentally traded to an expansion team (a new version of the Quebec Nordiques) through the mystery and hilarity of protecting players. He becomes team captain, welcomes a rookie into his house, and makes it clear to the Quebec Nordiques management that he is willing to stay and be the face of the franchise as long as they are willing to trade for Oliver Jackson, because they are best friends and married.
