It’s been seven years since Spock’s pon farr and he’s going through it again. He wants to have an operation that will stop the cycle and, as McCoy tells Kirk, make him a eunuch.

Spock secretly longs for Kirk, but won’t express it. Kirk doesn’t want him to have the operation. In a beautiful scene, Kirk looks into Spock’s eyes and knows that Spock desires him. So Kirk asks Spock to come with him to make passionate love. But Spock can’t as he still thinks of his needs as despicable and shameful. Kirk insists on going with him to Vulcan for the operation. In the shuttlecraft, Spock begins to go into plak tow. This is so heart-wrenching—Spock paces the small craft feverishly. Kirk has to sedate him. He contacts Sarek who knows the situation and is also against the operation. They reach Vulcan and they stay in some medical housing until the surgeon returns. Kirk realizes how much Spock loves him but still thinks that even though Kirk has offered himself, he only did out of charity and sympathy. But then Spock relates a very sexy fantasy to Kirk and we know they’ll be together.

Another fine story from one of my favorite authors who I wish would write again. Can’t stop hinting and nagging. I will resort to tears if necessary.
