Reactions and Reviews
Legion states at the beginning of the zine that these stories are not for everyone. She is NOT kidding here, folks. I have long been a Legion fan and have liked everything she has written--up until now. There were several stories in this zine that I did not care for. But these are PERSONAL likes and dislikes, and in no way reflect on the quality of writing or storytelling.Crossed. Jim and Blair are fairly new lovers and Jim orders a dozen new suits through the mail, trying to find material that will not irritate his skin. He accidentally gets a woman's order containing a soft silky blouse, an angora sweater, and stockings. He keeps the shirt, Blair secretly keeps the sweater, and in a very roundabout and believable way, Jim discovers that Blair gets off on Jim cross-dressing. I enjoyed this story. There is plenty of sex and shaving scenes and more sex. I found it believable and gentle and very loving in the way Jim reacted to Blair's kink, but this is not a kink I like to read about.
Zen and the Art of the Sentinel. Jim overhears Blair and Sam at the end of a date and discovered Blair has a yen to be dominated--totally. Jim has a yen to dominate Blair. He confronts Blair. The word cock-sucker is used a lot and Jim is pretty much a creep, but they both really get off on it.
The Business of Living. Blair wants to ask Katie to marry him, so Jim heads off camping to give Blair the loft for the weekend. But Jim is really going off into the wilderness to vent. He chains himself to a tree miles from civilization and lets loose. When he comes back to himself he is injured and weak and there is a wolf pack in the vicinity getting ready to eat him. He is protected by the panther and Blair's spirit animal, the wolf. The panther leaves and Blair-wolf stays to help Jim. This is VERY angst-ridden and poignant. There is bestiality. Jim and the wolf have sex. It is well written and you know that the wolf is Blair's spirit animal, but it is a wolf and not Blair. I liked this story all the way up until the end, which I hated. There is no resolution and no happy ending.
The Basis for Survival. A continuation of the previous story, I had high hopes for this one. Blair goes on a retreat, but Jim discovers a couple days after he has gone that Blair is gone for good. All his things are out of his room. The wolf comes, supposedly to protect Jim and keep him from going crazy. But by this time I think the wolf is Jim punishing himself. He constantly injures himself. Again there is sex, but it is violent and hard. Jim is severely injured during the sex. Blair comes back and finds Jim on the floor bleeding anally, covered with bruises. It is sad and tragic and again, in my opinion, there is no satisfactory resolution. I was very disappointed.
It Doesn't Count. A story about a primal Jim trying to win a shaman Blair. It is all a dream, but believable in how she describes it. There is light bondage, and love and great sex.
And Now For Something Completely Different. This is a previously net published story about Jim and Blair dressing as women to infiltrate and protect someone. You can probably still find it at Legion's website or SXF, so I am not going to go into it here.
This 'zine *is* well written, it is well laid out, and well presented. The images are terrific and there are lots of them. TACS has put little images of Jim, Blair, or Jim and Blair, all the way through the zine, plus several full page, full color images. But after I finished reading the zine, all I felt was sad and a bit dissatisfied. [1]
