Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a video game RPG created by BioWare that expanded into a series of novels and comics, and was followed by the sequel Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords and the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic.
The Setting
KotOR takes place approximately 3500 years before the events portrayed in the Star Wars movies. The player has the ability to decide the main character's gender, appearance, and name, a common feature in BioWare games; however, this character was later defined as a white man in order to create a single canon that could be used in books and Star Wars: The Old Republic. The plot begins with the main character dreaming while the ship that s/he serves on is suddenly attacked by Sith forces. The main character manages to esacpe with the help of Carth Onasi, a pilot who survives the attack, and together they search for a Jedi named Bastila Shan, who they hope will be able to help defeat the Sith.
