Stan Lee is Uatu the Watcher is a fan theory that states that all the cameos Stan Lee has played in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are not different characters, but one single character who can traverse time and space. The character is Uatu the Watcher who belongs to an alien race, the Watchers, who observe all sentient life in the universe, and Uatu is the Watcher assigned to earth. Uatu is very interested in the heroes of earth, and takes on a human form so that he can move about freely. The theory seems to have been created by SomeBigHero, who posted it to the r/FanTheories subreddit in March 2013. It became very popular among Marvel fans. At first creators denied the theory, but in 2017 Marvel chief Kevin Feige endorsed the theory, and stated that Stan Lee's cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 confirmed it.
