Reactions and Reviews

1992

Excellent story. One of the best I've read, for my preferences. A brilliant treatment of the wolf-and-lamb-Kirk episode. When I read this I had just watched that episode and was thinking of it in terms of K/S (of course) and this story really got to me. Insightful, powerful, subtle and stimulating. Well written: good language. McCoy's part fit in just right. A relevant premise, Spock's feelings about and for the two different Kirks. His reactions to each and his drawing the two of them back together were all very well thought out. Not to mention exquisitely erotic. A very strong story. Their feelings for and perceptions of each other would certainly be deeply changed after this incident, and especially relevant for Spock in dealing with his own dichotomies. [1]

A nice sensuous piece. While this has been done before, this story captured Spock's reunification of the two sides of Kirk's personality better than most.[2]

An episode as rich with possibilities as 'The Enemy Within" can always be mined for stories that will bring fresh insights. Yet I really have to say that this is the "Enemy Within" story that I've been waiting for. It's not only insightful regarding the these of the episode and erotic, but most importantly it makes use of Spock's telepathic ability to forge a link between the two Kirks that enabled Wolf and Lamb to accept one another. This reconciliation was lovingly

portrayed. I also adored the sexual intimacy in this story. Sex between Spock. and Wolf and the Lamb was wonderfully ambiguous. It was both a triad and not a triad, so that people who don't find threesomes acceptable could tell themselves it wasn't one, and the fans like me who love the expansion into menage a trois could enjoy that element. [3]

This is my FAVORITE STORY of 1992. She has taken a basic plot — the lamb Kirk and wolf Kirk resolving their probleam K/S style. She writes wonderfully. It's a pleasure to read her. From her first sentence on, the story is a gem. Kate Singer makes the point that both the lamb Kirk and Spock must totally accept the wolf Kirk. And it must really be acceptance -- not mere lip service born of necessity.

This is the special point of her story. It turns out the lamb Kirk can like the wolf Kirk and vice versa. This happens,though, only because both Kirks love Spock and voice their love for the first time. Spock wants at first to love only the lamb Kirk. The wolf Kirk makes Spock realize that he must love them both, and he finally does. Because of Spock's love, the wolf Kirk can then make his one and only "legitimate" command — which turns out to be a very noble gesture. The wolf indeed does have some "interesting qualities."

The story is only sixteen pages long, but it packs a wallop. I have reread it several times already. I highly recommend it to anyone. [4]

An excellent study of a familiar episode. What I enjoyed the aost was finding out that the "wolf" side of Kirk had loving feelings toward Spock, as strong as the "lamb/gentle" side. He wasn't just the brutal, animalistic imposter but wanted to be loved on his own.

Spock gently guides the two Kirks away from a jealousy and hate that would surely destroy them and enables the two halves to accept, if not like, one another.

This story had a lot of erotic touches to it. The two Kirks touching each other, at first tentatively, then with the practiced ease of two who are really one was wonderful. And the sex scene with all three together -- really sexy and sweet.

I really enjoyed this story. I'd like to believe that all of this is going on behind the scenes of the TV episode — just out of our sight... sigh. [5]

"Enemy Within" based story as Spock comes to terms with his own feelings for Kirk wolf/lamb.

"Like poor, ill-fated Humpty Dumpty, Mr. Spock. there's a chance that all the king's horses and all the king's men cant put your captain together again." I can just hear Kirk saying this and I love the clever use of the reference. Very good analogy as wolf/Kirk thinks of himself as different from the lamb as: "a wild thorny rose from a satiny hothouse bloom."

Great idea of Spock in his attempt to reunite the two Kirks, having them love each other. It's just a little too much thinking and mental discussion on Spock's part - -the story kind of bogs down as he theorizes on all this instead of taking more action.

However, it's an absolutely inspired idea to have the two Kirks make love to Spock and it's very sensual and exciting. Here's a super Spockian touch: "Even now, a part of his computer-like mind was cataloguing the sensations - the fluttery tightness in his stomach, the tingling in his head, the numbness of extremities... all symptoms he would at any other time have ascribed to illness."

The author also does a an excellent job of keeping the two Kirks and Spock straight - I was never confused as to who was whom (or what) - this is no easy task with three "hims"!

And when they make love -- it's insightful to have the lamb/Kirk penetrate the wolf/Kirk. This is certainly the ultimate mange story! You get to enjoy it without having either of them with someone else! Boy, was it hot when Kirk sucked and the other fingered.[6]}
