Reactions and Reviews
1989
"Something Special" represents another wonderful scenario for those with an oral bent. Kirk and Spock eat their picnic lunch off one another. [1]
1991
This story transforms an ordinary picnic into a sensual delight. Combining food and sex might not be to everyone's taste, but I appreciated the author's playful and inventive approach to sex. I would like to see more of this attitude in K/S. [2]
2001
This story starts out well as Kirk invites Spock to lunch from their duty on the bridge. Spock's a little reluctant to go, as he's in the middle of some sort of experiment, but "Kirk leaned his butt against the metal edge of the science station and crossed his arms over his substantial chest. "Not even for an hour?" He toned down the smile a little, trying for coaxing instead of brilliant. "I've planned something special for you."They beam down to the planet they're orbiting, Kirk coaxes Spock into diving into a lake (that's to get his clothes off, undoubtedly), then they begin to indulge in a picnic.
That's where the story starts to not work for me, cause they drape each other all over with food, starting with Kirk pushing a piece of melon "into the deep naval." I'm sorry, I can't help but contemplate how deep Spock's naval would have to me for it to accommodate average pieces of melon in Texas. Enormous! Funny how that one little sentence just ripped me right out of the story.
And the rest of it is sex with food, but maybe I'm too fastidious to like my Vulcans juice covered. Oh, well, some great sentiment in this story if you can look past the sweets! [3]
