Okay, it looks like the issue numbers of several of these are messed up, which means that they are listed here in order of the dates of their contents, not the numeration on the front page.

  • From the People Who Control the Remote, short editorial asking for submissions ("Be assured that we will be responsible for all content and that it will be balanced, fair, and accurate. Unless Richard writes it, then in will be unbalanced and guaranteed inaccurate.")
  • To Recap ("For those of us who could not attend the last meeting, you may not have been aware of a rather tense, and disturbing situation In the last newsletter, there was only one submission dealing with candidates for the upcoming elections. If one read between the lines, it appeared as if the writer were suggesting who should comprise our next council. This disturbed many members and the matter was properly addressed at the last meeting. To summarize. The outgoing council admitted responsibility for not encouraging more submissions from interested candidates. To quote, "It is the council's responsibility to solicit nominations and to forward those nominations to the newsletter editor.")

From Conversational Corner:

On June 15thr at 11:30am, a half a dozen members (and you know who you are!) went on the 10th annual Walk-For-Peace at the legislative grounds. It had been asked if the club banner could be carried. However, due to the political nature of the event, carrying the banner would not be a good idea. The reason?

If anyone in the military was found participating in such a political event they would be asked to resign from the service (and that is why I am not naming the walkers, individual beliefs are just as important as group beliefs). So with that explained, it brings to mind a question: Should STW become political?

Star Trek itself dealt with the hope that man will survive himself and end up in a peaceful future; therefore, STW should support and actively participate in events that promote peace... or should it?

It's something to think about (or bring up at the forum!).

However, don't forget that STW's banner has many uses! For example; it has been used at the Kiwanis Walk-a-Thon, the picnic, the club suite at Keycon, at displays (ie; Creation-Con)... perhaps you can help find more uses for it...

From the General Assembly Minutes:

For our Open House there was discussion about bringing in a mock up of a Next Generation Shuttle from Calgary. It would require a financial commitment of $500 from our club The council proposed and explained possible methods of financing the venture, but the idea was dismissed due to information given by Mr Mansfield that the shuttle was no longer available for that weekend With the Shuttle idea scrapped due to the lengthy time required to bring this idea before the club for approval, the second item of the evening was briefly discussed.

A question was raised as to whether the council should be given larger powers of authority in making decisions of a financial nature that involve a significant measure of risk. The argument being that our club is now unable to bring the Calgary TNG Shuttle in for the Open House because they had to wade through the bureaucrat tape of club approval This created a fair bit of discussion without an immediate resolution (NOTE: this might be worth bringing up again at an Open Forum.)

Among other items discussed. Andrew talked about the STW television show, and the possibility of moving our Halloween Social (to be held on October 26th) to the Pembina Motor Hotel.

Cheryl then reminded us of that the Star Trek Annual Picnic will be held on August 11th, and introduced the idea of donating any money raised at the picnic to a charity Her idea was discussed and declined.
