Shipping Characters, Not Actors is a term used by fanwork creators to indicate a distinction between characters and the actors who portray them, separating these works from RPF.
The term grew common around 2019, mainly in Social Media AUs.
A variation of this is common in SMP and other MCYT fandoms involving roleplay elements - typically something along the lines of "shipping characters not ccs" or "shipping cubitos only". The vast majority of works tagged Not RPF on Archive of Our Own are MCYT works.
