The Shinsengumi were a 19th Century police force in Japan.[1] The group has been the subject of many works of historical fiction and frequently makes cameos in anime, manga, and other media. In addition to liking these specific sources, some fans consider themselves part of shinsengumi fandom in general.

Shinsengumi fandom encompases cosplay, tourism, and historical study along with roleplaying games, original historical fiction, and fanac related to particular shinsengumi-themed media.
