Shingōki Trio (信号機トリオ, "Traffic Light Trio") is a Japanese term referring to the three main characters of Magi: Aladdin, Alibaba Saluja and Morgiana. In the English fandom, this term is not used, but they are usually called "The Trio" or "The Main Trio". Japanese fans also mark the group with the horizontal traffic light emoji (🚥), or refer to it as "Magi's Traffic Light Trio" (マギの信号機トリオ, Magi no shingōki torio) to differentiate it from other groups which could be called "Traffic Light Trio" as well. The name is a reference to the colour schemes of the characters: Morgiana for red, Alibaba for yellow, and Aladdin for green, although Aladdin's colour scheme is blue, it's seen as close enough to green.

Canon

Shingōki Trio are the three main characters of Magi, whose friendship forms early in the series. They share multiple adventures together and are often portrayed as a trio in official art.

Fanon

As the main trio of the series, they are the most popular group depicted in fanart. This includes fanart and other fanwork made by "casual" fans who maybe aren't as invested in the series or the side characters. As popular as depicting the trio is in artwork, it's not a common focus in fics (at least not tagged so).

When portraying the trio, they are usually depicted the way they appeared in early parts of the series. This includes their ages, character designs, as well as the fact that they are depicted as stricly gen. The canon romance between Alibaba and Morgiana is typically not included in Shingōki Trio artwork.

Seeing the three as a friendship trio sparked some criticism for the series when any of the three would get sidelined for a story arc. While the beginning of the series might be more Aladdin focused, and the end is certainly more Alibaba focused, many fans felt like Morgiana got sidelined in the final story arcs, which sparked criticism and might be a reason as to why seeing the trio portrayed in their latter forms is rarer: they simply appeared less as a trio in the last few arcs. There might also be a factor of seeing their early adventures as happier and more innocent. After the ending of the series, some thank you and goodbye art showed them in their post-canon appearances, even comparing them to their first appearances.
