Shadow Shiftin' is a gen anthology of stories based on Roger Zelazny's "The Chronicles of Amber."
From a Submission Request/Ad in 1983
Also in the works is a fanzine entitled SHADOW SHIFTING Right now, it contains such greats as "Faiella's Diary", her last thoughts before the birth of Deirdre; "Under the Four Moons", how Oberon met his 2nd wife on Darkover; "Shadow Show", Random's rock band on Earth; "King to Come", Corwin and Merlin's adventures in a new universe and "Trek or Treat", the obligatory Star Trek story. Best of all, it will contain lots and lots of artwork. We aren't limited to only Amber. Although we are Amber based, we reach out to all known and unknown universes. We hope by press time to have 75+ pages. Speaking of printing, we're sure you are aware of the high costs of publishing these days. Our selling price for the zine will be $8.00 each. We need to get as many pre-paid orders as possible. As soon as we can put enough funds together to put down a deposit at a printer, we will publish the zine. We hope to make it by Chicon, we can with your help!

art for a story in issue #2, "Kingmaking": "The zine was devoted to the world and characters of Roger Zelazny's "Amber." "Shadows" were alternative universes where the characters were sort of the same but lived different lives, and the physical world worked differently. In this fan-written story, a middle-aged, middle-class American guy is somehow translated between universes and ends up at the royal court of the perpetually scheming and fighting Amber family. The guy in black is Corwin, the hero of the book. The gal behind the visitor is Flora, and next to her in the scaly bits is Julian. You can just see the curly hair of another kinsman, "Random," seen from behind. An unknown woman's hand drops a drug pill into a cup in the lower right corner. I don't remember whether the poor soul in the suit and tie ever made it back to his home world.... Black ink on illustration board, 8 1/2" x 11", spring 1983." - pyracanthasketch
art for issue #2, "Kingmaking,": "I sure did a lot of fan art during the 1980s. This one is part of a set that I did for a fanzine devoted to the "Amber" stories and characters by Roger Zelazny. The story is about a large group of brothers and sisters, all sired by the same King but with different mothers. They can travel between dimensions and they all fight for the right to rule the universe through their dimensional powers. It's more Renaissance intrigue and swashbuckling than medieval "Game of Thrones" style storytelling. In this fan-written story, one of the Amber siblings (here, in black) invites a mundane friend of his (man in suit and tie on left) to be his guest in the world of Amber, where they witness the coronation of the new King. Black ink on illustration board, 8" x 5", spring 1983." Amber Coronation (March 13, 2017)
art for a story in issue #2: "The visiting Earthman is being approached by one of the sneaky dangerous princesses, and he is at the same time realizing that he really is in a castle in the clouds, where "down" is miles, or even universes, away. Ink on illustration board, 4 1/2" x 10", spring 1983." - pyracanthasketch
