Search the Solar Winds is a K/S story by Pam Smith.

It was published in the print zine First Time #2.

Summary

From the publisher: "Kirk and Spock are abducted by an alien who needs their life force to survive, a force obtainable only during sexual intercourse."

Excerpt

"You miserable rotten tease!" "Tease? I am afraid that I am unfamiliar with that term." Commander Spock of the USS Enterprise looked so indignant that his captain and friend, James Kirk burst out laughing as the two men faded into the cloud-like transporter beam, headed for the lush planet below. They materialized with the happy sound of Kirk's infectious giggle surrounding them and did not see the green warmth of Freitha that they expected, but an unfamiliar transported room. It was not a Federation ship. A deep-throated chuckle pierced the small room."

Reactions and Reviews

Forcing sex on someone - however persuasively - is rape. And I don't like rape stories. In this story, Darien's attitude of "If you two don't have sex with me I'll die; but that's okay, why should you care about poor me, one of the last of my kind... etc." is coercion pure and simple. There are other alternatives for Darien and his problem, but I must say that he was such an unsympathetic character that I really didn't care if he and his people did all die out. And I don't believe Kirk or Spock would agree to have sex with him under the circumstances, especially a first-timer. [1]

First, I would like to say that this is not a rape story. There is a subtle ethical difference between rape and what happens in this story. You see, Kirk and Spock are actually given a choice about whether or not to cooperate with Darian. He does offer to release them. Now, he isn't exactly a paragon of moral virtue because he did kidnap Kirk and Spock, but it isn't fair to contend that he also raped them. Darian said that he'd rather die than do that. They made their own decision to have sex with him, and I personally find it believable that they would do so out of respect for other life forms, and out of compassion. Darian had a certain dignity, and I did find him a sympathetic character. I also liked the telepathic interplay in this story. [2]

This story presents a compelling situation. Darien, of a species aiien both to Kirk and Spock, must ask both Kirk and Spock to make love to him, as he is the last survivor of his kind. He needs their energy or else he will die. Kirk's and Spock's giving is completely consensual; Darien does not force them in any way. The 3-way love interlude that happened was one of the warmest and most erotic I have read in a long time. I have only one small nit-pick. This did not read like a "first-time" story. Kirk and Spock behave as an established couple. It is more believable for them to already be in a relationship than for this to be their "first time." [3]
