By the time Reyes was introduced in season 8 there was already a small but dedicated femslash fanbase writing Scully/OFC fanworks, having chose to use original female characters due to a lack of possible characters to pair Scully with. This established practice made some fan more reluctant to ship Scully/Reyes as they were already invented in these OFCs.[1] Despite these reservations by some the pairing still became popular among femslash fan, though still relatively small compared with het and gens pairings within X-Files.
