Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye (リザ・ホークアイ, Riza Hōkuai) is a major character in the manga series Fullmetal Alchemist and related media.
Canon
A soldier. Her rank is first lieutenant. Transferred to Central after working in Eastern Command. A "cool beauty," who has always been by Roy's side as his aide. Currently, she serves the President. With an extraordinary marksmanship, calm personality, and frank mannerisms, she is feared and trusted by those around her. She has a pet dog that she named "The Black Hayate."[1]

Hawkeye is one of the most popular characters of Fullmetal Alchemist, often ranking just below protagonist Edward Elric and fan favorite Roy Mustang in popularity polls.[2][3][4] In the 2004 Animage Anime Grand Prix poll, Hawkeye was voted the most popular female character.[5]
Hawkeye is commonly cited as one of the exemplary strong female characters present in the series.
Riza Hawkeye Appreciation Day, a fan holiday, has been observed on 17 September in 2017[6] and 2020.[7]

Shipping
Hawkeye's most popular ship — and one of the most popular ships in the Fullmetal Alchemist fandom overall—is Royai, Roy Mustang/Riza Hawkeye. A large share—possibly the majority—of fan art featuring Hawkeye is Royai-themed. Even in fan works featuring other ships with Roy, such as Roy Mustang/Edward Elric, Hawkeye is usually not subject to character bashing as a "love rival", since fans can use her canonical relationship with Mustang as the basis of a strong platonic bond instead of a romantic one.
