Rickyl Writers' Group is a Tumblr and Slack community for fanfiction writers that concentrated on the pairing of Rick Grimes/Daryl Dixon, better known as Rickyl. Originally created as a forum in 2015, it hosted challenges, posted recs and had a forum to encourage its members. The forum closed in 2016 when the moderator felt they no longer had the time to commit to the project, although the Slack channel and tumblr changed hands to fans who did. The Rickyl Chat is currently administrated by Marooncamaro, serenalunera/Fandomtookmyhandandsaidrun, and 1lostone, and has over 50 members. The Tumblr is moderated by both Serenalunera (who also created much of the fanart on the blog) and 1lostone, although Marooncamaro and Justelliey are listed as admins.

The Rickyl Writers' Group is known for fanwork challenges, usually centered around the holidays, although the last Bingo Challenge was in 2018. Membership is open to anyone. The group is still active, although membership has waned since 2019. There are still many active AO3 users posting fic in the Rickyl tag.

I mean, Rickyl got me through some of the tough times in my life, and will always be my fandom. The RWG are a bunch of amazing people who encourage positive contributions to the fandom, and it’s kind of sad since Rick left, the fandom has gotten quieter... but we always are here! Somewhere...-- antigonesev

The dynamics of the characters is what drew me to Rickyl -- the emotions and interactions they had with each other from day one. As for the RWG... I'd seen tags on ao3 and I was curious, but it was an admin from the group who reached out to me with the invitation. I honestly hadn't expected to be noticed, since I was brand new to the fandom at that point.-- Bennyhatter (Pupatheart)

The RWG was how I got back into fandom for real. It was the group that made me confident enough to write for those boys who we all love so much even though English isn't my native language and I feel it has brought me so much, I've made so many amazing friends. I'm forever grateful.-- HogwartstoASZ

Tweedo (TWDObsessive) is why I started writing in this fandom; I took an idea of hers and ran with it and she was so so supportive. That Rickyl story was the first fan fic I ever actually finished and I could not have done it without her. And then I was able to finished a second and then a third. I hate that since Rick left the show the amount of Rickyl has died down so much, but it’s been so hard to keep up the inspiration. Not giving up on them though.-- jsmp

The creative energy I've found since I became a member of RWG is unlike anything I've ever experienced. I grew as a writer and a person in more ways than I can express because of the relationships and inspiration from this fan group, and made lifelong friendships that cross continents. All because of two men in a show about zombies. Never in a million years would I have guessed that one.-- Katytheinspworkaholic

Anyone who likes Rickyl is encouraged to join the slack and/or follow the tumblr. It does not need to be your main ship, and you do not have to write or draw to join. We are just a group of avid (some might say obsessed) fans who love to talk about the pairing, and always enjoy when new people come and check us out!-- MaroonCamaro

The sheriff and the Hunter...always-- Pumpkinknight120

RWG has been part of my life for nearly five years. Not only have I connected with like-minded souls, but I have made lifelong friends. The group is always sharing ideas, providing encouragement and feedback, and offering support and assistance. My specific love of Rickyl is how I discovered fan fiction in the first place. The relationship between Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon is just so alive and jumps off the screen. Discovering that there were thousands of stories to read and an unlimited number to write was amazing! And having so many friends to share my obsession with has been wonderful.-- TWDObsessive
