Rhythm Heaven is a series of rhythm video games developed and published by Nintendo. The series' core gameplay involves playing various minigames to the beat of various pieces of music, with an emphasis on audio over visual cues.
Due to its gameplay, graphics, and WarioWare-esc humor, Rhythm Heaven has gained a dedicated fandom. Fandom activity focuses on both gameplay and the creation of fanworks, such as fanart, game mods, fangames, and custom remixes.
Canon
The Rhythm Heaven series is comprised of four games: Rhythm Tengoku, Rhythm Heaven (commonly referred to as Rhythm Heaven DS), Rhythm Heaven Fever, and Rhythm Heaven Megamix. Each game is comprised of a variety of different Rhythm Games (minigames), which are split into collections called stages. Stages (with the exception of some stages from Megamix) end with a remix, which is a mashup of all the different minigames to a new piece of music.
Some minigames repeat throughout the series, notably Karate Man, a game about a man named Karate Joe punching plant pots, and some variation on a game about assembling "widgets" (Polyrhythm in RT, Built to Scale in RHDS, RHF, and RHMM). There are also plenty of recurring characters. Monkey, for example, has appeared in every Rhythm Heaven game, in games including but not limited to Tap Trial, Fan Club, Hole in One, and Animal Acrobat. Another example is Girl, who, while only appearing in Tap Trial and Tap Trial 2, became the mascot for the series, appearing on both the Rhythm Heaven DS and Rhythm Heaven Fever title screens and appearing on the cover art of CDs of music from the Rhythm Heaven Series.
