We all have a version of how we see the guys, but it‘s refreshing to read another writer‘s impression that makes you do a double take. Such was the case for me when I read 'Research'. I fell in love with the guys all over again. Kirk is at his arrogant/sassy best and Spock is just plain dominant/adorable.

Kirk starts off ignoring his First Officer while doing personal research on the sexual mating habits of other species so he doesn‘t accidentally offend other beings. Spock, at first, is sulky but intrigued when Kirk, who hasn‘t reached the 'V‘s‘ yet, makes an unwitting pass at him. Then Spock discovers what the research is and uses that pass as an excuse to train Kirk in Vulcan sexual practices. And this is just the beginning of the ride.

I equate this story with a trip to Disneyland to experience a new, but unknown, rollercoaster. You start out with anticipation and slide into 'what have I gotten myself into?‘ mode. As you climb aboard and ride with Kirk when a very dominant Spock takes control of the jaunt, you cling to the seat. And trust me, your bottom gets wet! Much to my delight, there were story plots within plots that K‘Chaps used to further the ride between Kirk and Spock. Watching these two spar, Kirk protesting yet loving Spock‘s lessons while still taking charge of an Enterprise experiencing malfunctions, offers what I love most about K/S: Passion! Passion for each other and command. Terrific story.
