From the Editorial
In May of 2008, I wrote:
- "Last night, when I finished putting the final touches on this novella, I found myself loath to say goodbye to these characters. But Requirements brings the story to an end, and yes, it is a happy one. I hope you approve and write so."
Ha, what was I thinking? I was soooo not done with James Kirkpatrick and Dean Winchester. There I was trying to write gen fic, and Dean and James kept gnawing at me. (Yes, I know, so not a bad thing. <BEG>) Finally, I cratered (who wouldn't) and gave myself permission to write. Thus Reckonings was born.
As always, I must thank my awesome beta readers, for without their willingness to drop everything and help out, this manuscript would not be as tightly written and typo free. But as you might know, Judy doesn't read slash and Jamie doesn't read Supernatural (well, except for mine) and I found I needed another perspective. So, you can all thank Tammy, the newest member of my Team Beta, for all the marvelous, slashy, romantic touches to this manuscript. She helped me find the True North between the boys — and I think the story is better for it.
Jkay has done another smashing cover for me. I can't tell you how often folks stop by the GriffinSong table just to admire her outstanding artwork. And then there is EveSong, who did the final shape-up, and drumgoddess who does the layout. What would Ido without all these people willing to work for hugs, coffee, wine, Malibu mm drinks, and chocolate?
As before, I must include a note concerning canon versus this alternate universe. At the end of the story, the reader will find an addendum wherein just about every link to SPN canon is explored. I created this to help me keep track of the alternate timeline I was building, but I think dedicated readers will find it fascinating, and maybe even helpful!
And so, it is with a touch of sadness, as well as a dollop of satisfaction, that I offer you Reckonings, the final installment of the trilogy started in Revelations Requirements. The boys are tucked in together under James' crazy quilt, and so I say "Good Night."

Summary
RECKONINGS brings the AU saga of Dean and James full circle. Having released the Seven Deadly Sins from the devil's gate, Dean and Sam find themselves with a new hunting agenda. At first James's home is a safe haven for the brothers--but when James is pulled into the situation by the demon Lust, all hell break's loose. [2]
n REC, the AU diverges even more from canon, especially with the myth-arc. In fact, in this universe, most of the events of season three are a moot point. There is no Ruby, and Bela, if anything, is a quickly dispatched monster of the week! In truth, given this alternate timeline, you can ignore anything that comes after the end of season 2and just put on your rose colored glasses. The boys live happily ever after.
Part One (Waystation): Sick of hanging out at Bobby's scrap metal yard trying to figure out what to do about the seven deadly sins they let out of the Hellgate, Sam and Dean decide to do some "normal" hunting. (It is early fall 2007.) Sam is bitten by a basilisk, so they need a place to stay for a few days so they head for James' house yet again. Dean belatedly realizes he might have brought more than Sam to James' doorstep.
Part Two (Reckonings): So far the deadlies Sloth and Pride have been sent back to hell with dispatch. Lust kidnaps James with the help of Envy. While some of the events of The Magnificent Seven (3.01) are evident, many things are a bit different. Sam and Dean have the Palo Santo, not Tamara and Isaac, though the couple has a place in this story as they kill Gluttony. Bobby is aware that Dean is bi. It is acknowledged here that Sam was being courted by the YED to lead a demon army. He was fed demon blood as an infant. The basic events of In the Beginning (4.03) are about the only other canon myth-arc events alluded to, but, of course, in this universe someone else had to have played Dean's part. Only the back story of Mary being a hunter and making the deal with the YED is important.
Part Three (Flesh and Bone): Yes, lines are taken from All Hell Break's Loose Iand II (2.21 & 2.22), but what came out of the devil's gate was the seven deadlies, not 200 plus demons. So Dean never has to make crossroads deal as Sam does not die. Whew. Which means their lives diverge significantly at this point. Dean never becomes the shattered person seen after his brother's death. Sam never loses his brother to hell. James as apart of Dean's life significantly alters everything. I hope you enjoyed reading my kinder, gentler and waaay more romantic take on their lives. I sure as hell enjoyed writing it.
Part Four (Beamish Boy): At the onset of this saga, Dean was 27, and James was 36. Add 25 or so years to that, you get 52 and 61 -sort of boggles the mind, huh?[3]
