RatBoat is a mailing list for slash fanfiction and slash-centric discussion about the TV series Once a Thief.
The list was founded on September 7, 2000 by The Theban Band. The list originally had the name Marching_Band, and was intended for discussion related to the creation and distribution of The OaT Zine produced by The Theban Band. The list was opened up to public membership and general Once a Thief slash fic and slash-centric discussion in March 2001. In April 2001, the list name was changed to RatBoat in order to 'avoid confusion' and to make its association to the RatB archive clear. In the early days of the list, fics posted to RatBoat were archived at RatB. The Theban Band later created The Agency, an archive specifically for Once A Thief slash fandom. The name 'The Agency' was chosen based on a poll of the members of the RatBoat list.
The list was most active in the years 2001-2003, during which period it averaged 60 messages a month. Its all-time highest traffic month was April 2002, with 181 messages.
A fannish meetup, coordinated through the list, occurred in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in October 2002.
Fanfiction shared on the list before July 31st, 2005 was archived at The Agency.
