Summary

"Kirk and Spock find each other while walking in the rain."

Excerpt

""Come on, let's walk in the rain." He started to reach out to me and flashed that grin he knows I can't resist, then just as quickly aborted the gesture and returned his hand to his side. "Don't," I said quietly. The smile faded. "Don't?" he questioned. I could see the thoughts running through his mind: don't touch, don't smile, don't talk? What did I do?""

Reactions and Reviews

By some weird coincidence I've read at least four K/S stories recentlywithsome variation of the word "rain" in the title and loved them all. I decided to write a LOC about the last one I read, "Rainy Day". This is a lovely little short story, only three full pages long, with a very simple premise. Kirk and Spock are on shore leave together, and the story is told from Spock's POV as he and Kirk go for a walk on a rainy day. Kirk reaches for Spock as he suggests a walk, but pulls his hand back before he can touch him. Spock tells Kirk that although the touch of strangers is unwelcome, Kirk is hardly a stranger, and touching is one way he expresses himself and so Spock does not wish him to refrain from this way of communicating. The story proceeds from there as Kirk explores the concept of touching with Spock. I thought this was a beautiful, heartfelt story that was loving and quietly erotic, slowly building the mood between the two men. This story was short, but very satisfying. [1]

Just the other day I had a few rare moments to settle back in an easy chair, listen to a light rain tapping on my windows and read a bit of K/S. Curiously, the story I came to was, appropriately, “Rainy Day”. It begins with Kirk inviting Spock to walk with him in the rain. It’s a very warm story told first person by Spock, who readily admits to his companion that touching is something he welcomes from Kirk. It isn’t long before they are holding hands as they stroll along the beach, talking. The conversation is alluring, with feelings being revealed as slowly and gently as the rain falls from the sky. It’s beautiful when Kirk turns and lays his fingers on Spock’s cheek, to have them quickly covered by a warmer hand. Making love when they return to their shore leave retreat is inevitable – but I’m not complaining. It holds the mood, lulling the reader into promises of wondrous things to come. [2]
