Quynh, referred to in the comics as Noriko, is a character from The Old Guard. In the 2020 film adaptation, she was portrayed by Vietnamese actress Van Veronica Ngo.

Canon Overview

Spoiler Warning: This article or section may contain spoilers. If this bothers you, proceed with caution.

The comics and the film diverge slightly on Quynh's backstory. However, in both sources, she is extremely close with Andromache of Scythia, and they are implied to have been romantically involved.

In the comics, she is the second immortal that Andy meets (after Lykon). Her disappearance at the bottom of the ocean is an accident, as the group was on a ship during a bad storm and Quynh was swept overboard. She serves as the primary antagonist of Volume 2, bent on revenge against Andy and the other immortals.

In the Netflix film adaptation, Quynh is the first time Andy meets another immortal besides herself. During an attempt to rescue some women from a witch trial, she is caught along with Andy. When the truth about their inability to die comes to light, Quynh is imprisoned at the bottom of the ocean in an iron maiden. Nile Freeman has dreams of her, and fanon seems to suggest that so does Booker.

Fandom

Angst is popular in works featuring Quynh, due to the grief that Andy clearly still has over losing her. Both pre- and post-canon works appear.

Common Tropes

Shipping

Quynh is primarily shipped with Andromache of Scythia; while their tag on Ao3 does not make up nearly as large a portion of the works as the juggernaut of Joe/Nicky, it's still a substantial number of fic and growing quickly.
