Project: "STAR TREK" was a 1975 30-minute teleplay written, produced and acted by some high school students.

The plan was to have it debut at Star Trek Lives! (convention)/1976, though it is likely this did not happen.

Similar projects were: My Fair Starship, One Cube or Two?, and Star Date 3113.7.

About

From an article in The Vulcanian Chronicle #1:

At the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, Mass., there was something in the making last year. Project: STAR TREK. Their five year mission lasted some three months, but this year, a young honest writer who wrote with the quality of David Gerrold and Rod Serling combined came along, bringing with him a story out line, crudely written for the ST animation. When this young author discovered the dead project, he handed the outline over to the producers, and he was praised. The ego grew, and the world shook in its boots. The producers decided that they would do this thirty minute show under the writer's direction.

The first draft of the teleplay was written in three days, then the second and third and the final fourth. It was mimeoed and handed out. Weeks moved on, the main console was built — and weeks later, nothing else was built. The young writer knew he was in trouble. Sullen and with drawn, per usual, he came up with Plan B.

Knowing he could never have the bridge. Kirk's quarters, a corridor and part of the transporter room done in time so that the finished show could be presented at the NY con in February, he decided that he would do the same script, but on a smaller Federation scout survey ship, with a moderate bridge and sets. When the writer told the producers, he found they were thinking the same thing.

In two days the fifth draft was written, and it is now being examined by the story editor.

The author of this article is the young writer (as if you didn't know), so please pardon my ego. Seriously, folks, we are working on a new version of ST called QUASAR. If you want to help, we need costumes, boots, money!!! and upon taping date, we'll need several grips to help out, Availability of materials is still a problem. It will not be ST, but will be in the ST universe.

The Executive production team is EXECUTIVE PRODUCER: Paul Weisblatt. PRODUCERS: Brett Scholbe, Ian Bruce. DIRECTOR, WRITER: Stephen Langford. ASSOCIATE PRODUCER, STORY EDITOR, AND SCRIPT CONTINUITY: Sue Champeny.

Hopefully, it will be ready by NY con time to be taken up there. - Steve Langford.
