Potions Accident is a common "how they get together" trope in Harry Potter fandom, and may occur in other magical fandoms.
Pairings
- Snape/Harry - since many people believe this is an implausible relationship, a potions accident is a common way to explain why they're spending enough time together to create an emotional bond. It's usually some kind of unexpected aphrodisiac, but sometimes involves poison that results in Harry needing to ask Snape for a cure.
- Harry/Draco - as they share Potions class together, many fics involve them accidentally making a potion that either turns aphrodisiac or creates some kind of bond between them. Occasionally, the potion gone awry will damage them both and they will be forced to recover together in the hospital wing.
- Snape/Hermione - With an antagonistic student/teacher relationship, there are many fics where Hermione makes a flawed potion and Snape either tries to correct it or is caught in the effects.
Fanworks
- Meri's Sanguis Vinculum - Harry, Ron, and Hermione try to make a potion that will allow them to combine their magical energies to defeat Lord Voldemort. Snape interferes at a crucial moment, and the result is a soulbond between Harry and Snape.
