plaidshirtjimkirk has been an ongoing member of the Star Trek: The Original Series fandom since 2013. They were originally known as "thosevulcaneyebrows", but are now recognized as plaidshirtjimkirk in the Star Trek community.
plaidshirtjimkirk is a fanfiction author for the Kirk/Spock pairing. They are also known for actively blogging and supporting writers on their blog at plaidshirtjimkirk.
They run the OMS Challenge (OMS Challenge) every year during the month of November, as well as dedicating time to updating thyla-recs, a Kirk/Spock fanfiction recommendation blog which they created in May 2015.
OMS
OMS (Old Married Spirk) is a trope existing in the Star Trek Kirk/Spock fandom in which the characters Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock are married/bonded following the five-year mission. The trope has existed for many years, however had been somewhat stale in the fandom for quite some time. To inspire more fanwork for this trope, plaidshirtjimkirk began encouraging other artists and writers to create OMS material by organizing the OMS Challenge in 2014.
The OMS Challenge is a fandom project that runs every November, calling for the creation any kind of fanwork (fanfiction, fanart, fanvids, gif sets, etc.) as long as the fanwork focuses on OMS. It was designed with minimal rules, making it as easy as possible for anyone with interest to participate. At the end of November, a masterpost of all submissions is compiled and then promoted on tumblr.
The challenge had a successful response in 2014 and gained even more popularity in 2015. The number of works tagged as Old Married Spirk on AO3 alone has steadily increased from 23 titles in 2014 to over 60 in 2016. There is an AO3 OMS Challenge Collection that creators are encouraged to submit to every November.
plaidshirtjimkirk has contributed to the OMS trope by writing stories such as "I Still Do", "Between Our Hands", Fulfilling The Needs of the One (Or the Both)", and "A Month Named Eternity".
