Pioneer Podfic is an AO3 collection created to gather and highlight podfics that were the first in their fandom to be posted to the Archive.

It was created and is maintained by peasina, with feedback from Europodfriends 2020 participants.

Pioneer_Podfic
A collection for first podfics, i.e. podfics that are the first published on AO3 for their fandom. Let’s celebrate podfic that might otherwise be underappreciated or go unheard!

As of October 2023, the collection features 488 works in 649 fandoms - the earliest one a Bandom podfic from 2007.

Some of the podfics are the first of many in their fandoms, while some are still the only existing podfic.

Rules

The collection is unmoderated; creators are free to add their own works.

Podfics in any language may be added to the collection.

Qualifying podfics need only be the first of their fandom to be posted on AO3, pre-existing podfics archived somewhere else do not count.

History

This collection was inspired by Behind the Pod’s episode, “Podficcing on the Periphery - What it's like to be the only podficcer in your fandom” by ItsADrizzit. This collection was created (and named!) during Euro Pod Friends 2020. Thank you to those EPF attendees who offered feedback, encouragement, provided podfic fandom history for similar events/fests/collections, and who helped tinker with the rules/FAQ!
