Pictures of the Past is a slash 98-page Sentinel novel by Katrina Bowen.
Part of this story appeared four months earlier in Come to Your Senses #1 and was called "What Remains Behind."
Summary
After a traffic accident, Blair is injured and loses the last six years of his life--which includes his entire loving relationship with Jim. Can he learn to love this stranger or will Blair let go of a past he can no longer remember and start his life over again--without Jim? [1]
From a Flyer
A PICTURE OF THE PAST (I think that's the current title; [the author] keeps changing it on me! <g>) is a slash Sentinel novel by Katrina Bowen, and will be comprised of two parts: the original story, first printed in COME TO YOUR SENSES 1, which has been expanded with new scenes, has Blair being injured and getting amnesia. Trying as hard as he can, he can remember nothing about his life before with Jim and slowly begins to realize that perhaps he can never be the Blair that Jim loved ever again.
Perhaps, as he has learned new things and new ways of doing old things, he has grown into someone who no longer loves Jim. Perhaps he and Jim should go their own ways before the amnesia destroys what friendship they've managed to regain. Jim is beside himself with fear and grief. How could Blair even imagine leaving him? How could he let his lover-turned-near-stranger go and never see him again? Jim gets Blair to agree to a six-month trial period in which he assures Blair that Blair will come to love Jim again, that they will get back the precious love they once shared. Wary, unsure and unconvinced, Blair agrees to stay...for six months.
The sequel to this story is the 'novel' part of this zine. It started out as a short story for CTYS1, but soon took on a life of its own--and *grew*. Find out what happens to Jim and Blair as the six months pass, as Jim fights for his lover, and Blair fights to find himself again. Don't miss this spell-binding conclusion!
A PICTURE OF THE PAST (or whatever it ends up being called--pick one, Katrina <g>), will be available for the first time at the upcoming Bash at the Loft. Want to read this new zine as soon as possible? Come to the Bash!
Please don't ask me for prices yet, since I don't have the zine typeset or laid out and won't be able to give you an answer. I'll post it when I do. For those of you who can't make the Bash, the zine will be available beginning Sept. 14, 1997. [2]
Reactions and Reviews
This is a good 'comfort zine'. I keep going back to this story and reading it over and over. Blair and Jim are lovers, when tragedy strikes. Blair is in an accident and suffers permanent memory loss - the last five years of his life, including all his memories of Jim, are now gone. Now he finds he's living with a man he doesn't even remember. This is a really angsty yet sweet story about falling in love with someone you don't remember, yet who already knows you completely. Curl up, have the hot chocolate ready, and enjoy. :-) [3]
A nice novella. Well written. Since the agent has supplied a good description, I will forgo any comments, 'cept to say it's a very nice addition if you like to collect 'zines or just like a good angsty story. [4]
