Phichit Chulanont is a supporting character in the anime Yuri on Ice.

Canon

Phichit is shown to be cheerful and easy-going, but working hard to make a mark on the figure skating world for his country. His skating programs aim to introduce the world to Thai media and culture, and he dreams of creating an ice show in his native city of Bangkok. Like many characters in the anime he is rumoured to be based on a real-life figure skater: Michael Christian Martinez.

Yuri Katsuki says that Phichit is his best friend in the skating world. The two trained together under the same coach in Detroit prior to Yuri moving back to Japan, but continue to stay in touch throughout the events of the series.

In-universe, he appears to be associated with hamsters - he keeps several as pets during his stay in Detroit, and fans throw plush hamsters onto the ice after his performances. He is very active on social media, often posting selfies and photos of other skaters.

Common Pairings

In a 2022 post, phantomstatistician outlined the most common ships for Phichit based on a sample of 1,970 works on Ao3.[1] Seung-gil Lee came in first place, followed by Christophe Giacometti.

Less commonly, he can be seen in an OT3 with Leo de la Iglesia and Guang-Hong Ji.

In pre-canon works, he is sometimes portrayed as having had a one-sided crush on Yuri.

Fanon and Common Tropes in Fanworks

Phichit is often written as the supportive best friend in Viktuuri works and a good friend overall, though that often relegates him to supporting character status.
