Fandom
The Peter/Ned fandom emerged in 2017 after Spider-Man: Homecoming came out. Tumblr user transpeter (deleted) was an especially prominent writer and fanartist in the early days of the ship, while the tumblr user NedxPeter (inactive) mostly promoted and distributed Peter Parker/Ned Leeds content from around tumblr. Zinnia-apologist came up with the commonly-used ship name Interwebs.[1]
There was a strong culture of multishipping and polyshipping[2][3]; Peter/Ned, Peter/MJ and Peter/Ned/MJ fans overlapped quite heavily.
There was, however, not much public overlap between these fans and MCU Tony Stark/Peter Parker or Wade Wilson/Peter Parker shippers. Some influential Interwebs fans made posts against Peter/Tony and Peter/Wade, sometimes actively comparing these ships negatively to Ned/Peter, Liz/Peter, and MJ/Peter because of concerns over both age and race.[4][5]

- Trans!Peter: Many headcanons, fics, and pieces of fanart for the ship feature a trans Peter. [6][7]
- Bi!Peter: Peter is commonly interpreted as bisexual in the fandom. [8][9][10]
- Peter Is A Clothes Thief: Based on this post by transpeter, it became a fandom trope for Peter to borrow or steal Ned's clothes. [11][6]
