Excerpt

"Spock made his way down the corridor, his attention focused on the Padd in his hand. They were currently holding orbit over Starbase 6 and there were a myriad of tasks to be completed before they could depart. "Mr. Spock!" He turned to see Mr. Scott approaching rapidly. He paused as the engineer hurried up to him."

Reactions and Reviews

I am told by a reliable source that this story is adapted from one that appeared on Star Trek: The Next Generation. You could have fooled me. I did watch TNG for its entire run in an attempt to keep up with my favorite universe, but either missed this one or it never made the impression on me it was intended to. Perhaps it would have been different if the episode had featured Kirk and Spock. This story remedies that earlier oversight in a most pleasurable way.

Kirk and Spock have recently become lovers, and Spock is still feeling his way through the new emotions and commitments that have complicated and enriched his life when he suddenly begins having nightmares. Bizarre nightmares. Is this new intimate relationship with Jim causing them? Is he losing his mind? The nightmares escalate in intensity. Then Spock experiences hallucinations when he is apparently wide-awake. As the Enterprise crew works together to solve this mystery, the strange experiences Spock is going through suddenly take a much darker turn. During a loving encounter in Spock’s quarters, he removes a Pre-Reform Vulcan weapon off his wall and attacks his captain and lover. Since this zine is just a few months old, I don’t want to give away too much of the plot so I’ll stop my synopsis here. There were several aspects of the story I particularly enjoyed. In many stories Scotty and Bones have only tangential roles to play. Not so here. Everyone is actively involved in solving the mystery, and I liked seeing them all working together. Teamwork was such an integral part of aired Star Trek. The pace was excellent, and the good writing kept me thoroughly involved in the story. This author also writes a mean sex scene.

Nice work, Khiori. [1]
