Parks and Recreation is an American documentary-style comedy television series that ran for 7 seasons on NBC.

Its ensemble cast features Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope, deputy director of the Parks Department, and her friends and coworkers: Nick Offerman as Ron Swanson, Rashida Jones as Ann Perkins, Adam Scott as Ben Wyatt, Chris Pratt as Andy Dwyer, Aubrey Plaza as April Ludgate, Aziz Ansari as Tom Haverford, Retta as Donna Meagle, Rob Lowe as Chris Traeger, and Jim O’Heir as Jerry/Gary/Terry/Larry Gergich.

Fandom

Though it is a popular show, its fic presence is fairly small. It has been requested and written for at Yuletide every year since 2009.

Ships include the canonical Ben/Leslie, Andy/April, as well as non-canonical Ann/Leslie (as Leslie says, they are “tragically, both heterosexual”) and April/Ann. Fanon pairings such as Ron/Leslie, Ben/April, Ben/April/Andy, etc. have also appeared and are fairly common.

Parks and Rec's fandom extends into somewhat of a cult following, much like its predecessor The Office. The character Ron Swanson, in particular, has developed a following of his own, and the character and actor have had favorable essays and reviews in entertainment media as well as in publications like National Review and International Business Times.

In 2016, Parks and Recreation was ranked number nineteen in the Top 20 "most reblogged" live-action television show on Tumblr, losing seventeen spots in popularity.[1]

In the beginning of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the cast came together to film a Zoom-style reunion episode to raise money for charity. The episode revolved around the characters adapting to social distancing and the pandemic.[2]
