Owners of Aragorn Angst (mostly called either Aragorn Angst or simply AA) is a mailing list founded on February 25, 2005, by Aragornwriter. It was a reaction to the fact that the very popular Mellon Chronicles list offered fanfic and discussion about Aragorn, but usually only in connection with Legolas. Aragorn Angst was supposed to be a place where Aragorn fans could share thoughts, ideas and fanfic that was truly Aragorn-centered. It basically followed the rather simple idea that Aragorn deserves his own mailing list.

While the mailing list started out without a clear goal in mind (except the fact that it should be somehow Aragorn-related), it soon found its own footing, centering mostly around fanfiction, general discussions about writing, recs and prompt challenges.

Neither slash nor smut is allowed on the list, but general discussion about these topics is allowed, assuming that members will keep in mind that Aragorn Angst is open to all age groups. Generally, everything Aragorn related is encouraged onlist, but what Aragorn Angst sees most is fanfiction.

Still in 2005, Naice a Nilme, a fanfiction archive, was loosely tied to the list. Members of Aragorn Angst are invited to use the archive, but Naice a Nilme's scope is a bit wider than the list's insofar as it also encourages fanfiction about Legolas.

Aragorn Angst also provides information and deadlines for Teitho, a monthly fanfiction challenge. Many authors who are members of the list, write for Teitho as well and usually stories are posted to the list after the challenge is over.

On February 26, 2006, a new feature was added to Aragorn Angst - the Middle Earth Express, a weekly prompt challenge. Each Sunday a simple prompt word is given out and list members are invited to write a ficlet inspired by that prompt. The ficlet should not be longer than 500 words. However, in practice that rule is regularly broken - the resulting fanfiction is usually called EE - Extended Edition. The prompts are supposed to be a writing exercise. For that reason, prompt fics can be about any Lord of the Rings character and need not be about Aragorn.
