Overpowered is used to describe characters (or sometimes other story elements) that one feels is too strong or faces inconsequential challenges. It's often a term of critique, used by readers to describe fics negatively; but some writers have embraced the term and used it to characterize their own work.[notes 1]
In some fandoms, writing a character to be overpowered is referred to as wanking them. Some characters that have been described as wanked include Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Luna Lovegood. Other story elements can also be wanked, such as Muggle wank or pureblood culture wank.[1][2]
