Reactions and Reviews

Two large boxes of mostly unread zines rest underneath a shelf in my closet. Last night when I wanted something short to read, I pulled a zine at random from one of these boxes. The first story in the zine was guaranteed to get me off to a good start because it was by a well-known and respected author.

There is an unusual twist to this short story that I found nicely different and somewhat amusing. Heck, even Kirk found it amusing... to a point. You see, whenever Kirk gets a hard on, his first officer also experiences an erection, which he quickly suppresses in shock and disbelief. Trouble is, that action also causes Kirk to wilt at some rather inopportune times! It‘s McCoy who figures the whole thing out, because both men come to him and he puts two and two together and suggests the command team should have a talk. And what a talk it is! Spock says “Dr. McCoy has suggested to me that there is the possibility we are experiencing a mutual sexual dysfunction because of a low-level meld.” “You, too? You can‟t get it up either?” “I cannot keep it down,” corrected Spock. Now you must admit that conversation caused you

to smile! This could have turned into a terrible misunderstanding filled with several pages of angst and pain. But the author chose to write our heroes as men of wisdom and acceptance who quickly recognized this could only mean they loved and wanted each other, both mentally and physically. It made for a very good read and that smile stayed on my face for quite awhile after I finished. [1]
