Reactions and Reviews
Oh, I love stories that revolve around episodes—I can never get enough of what may have happened behind the scenes. This is a great example. Beginning with 'Errand of Mercy', one at the very top of my list, doesn‘t hurt a thing. I‘ve always seen Kirk and Spock huddled on those dungeon steps and imagined all sorts of things. Patricia takes it a step further, she describes in lovely detail what happens when their concern and love for each other surfaces in the face of possible execution. Now I know what happened on those steps! But the mark of a good story is that things can‘t be that simple. There are many ramifications from that encounter and they follow the two men straight into 'The City on the Edge of Forever', shedding a new light on some of the familiar scenes from that episode as well. From there, we are able to go on and explore the exhausting emotions triggered by the events of 'Operation Annihilate', another favorite. One of the very best parts for me was when Spock, having miraculously regained his sight, is riding in the lift with Kirk and detours it to the observation deck. ―I wish to see the stars again.‖ This is, as you might imagine, another turning point in their lives. The story is filled with emotion and self-exploration and of course the prime ingredient is love. If you love TOS, you‘ll love seeing many of the blanks filled in by this author. [1]
