Reactions and Reviews
Haunting and mysterious, this early AFB story reprinted here, opens to find Spock stranded on a planet, sans memory of himself or anything at all. Kirk is on the Enterprise and has lost Spock for a year.
A mystery figure shows up to Spock- it's a woman, but is she a memory? Or a ghost? Or real? It is beautifully expressed as we see this "Silhouette" as he calls her, appear to him as different people he has known in his life.
"When he turned. Silhouette was gone. He glanced toward the shoreline, and saw only the ripple of circles on the otherwise still waters. For an instant, he was under the warm wet darkness with her. floating in a black sea which reflected stars and moons and galaxies and secrets."
Memories of Kirk keep coming back to him in flashes and the passages of Spock's thoughts are beautifully done.
This is a lovely story filled with great images and an ethereal quality that is highly unusual. [1]
