Reactions and Reviews

1989

This is a short but very audacious story in which Spock becomes capable of lactation when his nipples are stimulated, and Kirk drinks the milk from Spock's nipples. Spock also states that Kirk might lactate due to the bonding Unit. The basic idea is that when Vulcans bond, both mates lactate to allow them both to feed the children. Some fans might be turned off by this concept because they believe that it makes Kirk and Spock women. Kirk, in the story, is also uncomfortable enough with the idea of his lactating that he doesn't want McCoy to know. He is afraid it will be recorded in his medical file, and that others in the crew will find out. Not only doesn't a lactating Kirk bother me, but I consider such androgyny fascinating. I am also pleased by the idea that Vulcans can have both parents caring for their children equally — even when it comes to breast feeding. [1]
