Nightmare Creatures is a horror video game. Its story involves 17th-century occultists attempting to create a magical elixir that goes wrong, resulting in horrific creatures that the early-19th-century protagonist must defeat. Reviews were mixed - everyone loved the worldbuilding and artwork, but gameplay itself had problems that many reviewers disliked.
While it is a micro-fandom in the fic world, it has several dozen Let's plays at YouTube - a good showing for a "retro" game that wasn't at the top of the popularity charts.
