Nightcore is a style of editing music in which the song is usually sped up, giving it a faster tempo and a higher pitch. Occasionally songs may be only increased in pitch. The style is regularly associated with anime and manga, with uploads on YouTube featuring images of characters from various different fandoms appearing as the background.

The style has similiarities with Chipmunk Versions, uploads of songs that resemble the singing of Alvin and the Chipmunks. However, chipmunk versions, as the name suggests, aim to recreate the very high pitched voices of the chipmunks, whilst nightcore edits generally don't tend to increase the pitch to that extent, and tend to be more frequently sped up than that of Chipmunk versions.

Many nightcore uploads have tens of millions of views. One of the most well known and popular nightcore edits is 2012's Nightcore - Angel With A Shotgun, with over 231,000,000 (231 million) views as of 24th March 2022.
