Reactions and Reviews

A TMP spackle of the type I generally enjoy. It starts with a first person section from Spock and then Kirk and then a third person section brings them together. The story is neither long nor particularly sophisticated, but it’s a sweet and plausible take. I find Starshadow’s Spock a little on the melodramatic side especially when he reflects that McCoy’s presence was the only thing stopping him falling to his knees to beg Kirk’s love and forgiveness. I probably think Spock would be a little more dignified. But of course he doesn’t beg forgiveness – he only thinks he’s like to, so that’s OK. I actually rather like to think of Spock being a bit like this, always blaming himself, always chastising himself, thinking he’s always failed in logic and in love. Kirk’s voice is nicely different and I like the idea that he had sensed Spock’s Pon Farr at Gol and suffered with him. These are a Kirk and Spock I can believe in, but I am not sure everyone else will agree. Nice sex scene at the end too – just the dynamics I like! i.e. Kirk on top! I guess I think this is a good fantasy story, I’m not sure its quite Kirk and Spock on TOS or TMP, but it’s a version of Kirk and Spock familiar to me from my own fantasies! I hope Starshadow writes some more ambitious fiction soon and takes my fantasy Kirk and Spock on an adventure someplace. [1]

Oh, this is good! An intimate, late-night (my favorite kind) reunion after V'ger has appeared. Spock's sorry he left for Gol, where he experienced pon farr. Jim had sensed it and we learn about its effects on the human. He'd been married to Lori but couldn't touch her after that. Yea! I liked that! The two men took each other back gladly. This writer gives us a lot of explanations about what has happened to both men in the intervening time. There's a touching love scene, hot and gentle too. Eldest Mother would like to see a bonding ceremony? Me too! Nice ending, intimacy in the night, my cup of tea. [2]

This is a very touching account of how Kirk and Spock renew their relationship following the events in The Motion Picture after Spock’s encounter with V’ger. Although this is not the first time by a long chalk that this storyline has been used, this particular author still manages to make it fresh and interesting. This is not an especially long story, but it still packs in a fair amount of emotional intensity, as Kirk visits Spock as the ship is traveling back to Earth after the V’ger crisis is over and they finally get to talk about what happened and try to resolve the issues which stand between them. One particularly emotional moment is when Kirk talks about his marriage to the now dead Lori and reveals that even when Spock was so far away on Gol Kirk was aware when he went into pon farr while he was at Gol and the effect this had on his marriage. Spock tells Kirk a little of what happened then and we feel Kirk’s sympathy and horror at Spock’s suffering so much especially when he tells Kirk that the other acolytes at Gol, locked him in his cell, not expecting him to survive the ordeal is very well described. In turn Kirk’s revelations that this was the final straw instrumental in the break-up of his marriage bring all Spock’s previously hidden feelings to the surface as well which leads to their joint realisation that they still feel the same way about each other in spite of all that has taken place. This in turn leads them to a very emotional reunion and the realisation that they can now put the past behind them and go on together, as they were always meant to. [3]
