Nana is a popular manga series that has been adapted into an anime and two live-action films. Though it is often considered josei by Western fans, it is considered shoujo in Japan.
Plot Synopsis
The story centres on two young women, both named Nana, who meet on train to Tokyo and realize they are both 20 years old. They have wildly different personalities and life experiences - Komatsu Nana is a naive romantic who is moving to the big city to live with her high school boyfriend; Osaki Nana is a rebellious musician trying to become a professional singer. Fate throws them together once again when the two end up renting the same apartment, and they become further entangled in each other's lives and relationships.
Fandom
Something that I have always noticed between the Chinese and Western spheres of Nana fans is the difference in characters that they hate. For example, in the west, I've seen a fair bit of hate for Reira and some for Hachi, which I see a lot less of in Chinese fans. On the other hand, characters like Sachiko are deeply hated in the Chinese fandom whereas it seems that Shoji is the only one who catches flack here.Interesting observations on differences in Western vs Chinese fandoms on Reddit
