From the Editorial

I know MY VICE seems a lonq time in coming, but that's because you haven't been trying to write a Miami Vice novellette in between a rising career or scrambling for time to finish artwork amongst deadlines and bills or even trying to find the time to dismantle an obsolete printing press, get repair parts, put it back together, and wait for the repair man to come tell you where the last roller and three screws go.

When I proposed MY VICE, I had no idea SANITY MAINTENANCE was coming out, no idea how many rabid Vice fans were out there and no idea that poor Mary Platt's proposed short story would keep growing into over 100 pages. I'd originally intended the entire zine to be around 60 pages. Down and dirty, nothing fancy. Then things got a little out of control. It didn't help that I had learned to operate a printing press or fell in love with Patrick Nagel's artwork.

I did always hope the zine could capture the flavor of the show, particularly the first two seasons when you had WATCH Miami Vice because they didn't tell you everything in dialog. This was using video to its fullest extent and I loved it. So when I got Linda Knight's wonderfully intense and stylistically creative pieces, I loved them, too. This is a warning. Stay alert when reading Linda's pieces, be imaginative, go with the flow. She doesn't spoon feed everything to you. You have to use your whole brain - left and right side. Mary Platt's book is more linear, but no less intense or compelling. Many fans have read part of this piece over the course of its writing. Now everyone will get a chance to read it without time gaps. It was begun when Sonny and Gina were still frisking each other and pastels were hot, so try not to add to much from this last season into the scenes.

There's no plans or promises for a MY VICE #2. Everyone involved in this incident has been cleared of charges. I hope you enjoy the zine.
