My Brother's Keeper is a gen 130-page Star Trek: TNG novel by C. Ann Brightman.
From an ad in Data Entries #36: "Data's been kidnapped, Lore is lurking around, and the Crystal Entity is back and turned against bad boy Lore. Meanwhile Dr. Soong attends a sinister tea party."
From the Author's Foreword
I started to write My Brother's Keeper after seeing "Datalore" for the first time. My enthusiasm for The Next Generation was only a few months old and although Data started out as my favorite character, Lore posed a special fascination for me from the first moment I saw him. Why was he so different from his brother? Why was he so full of hate and hostility? Was he really "evil"? Or was he a hurt and tortured personality with a legitimate reason to be bitter? I decided to explore these issues by writing a story about this remarkable character... a story that grew and grew until it became a novel full of events and turns of plot that took me as much by surprise as they did the protagonists. Imagine my delight when "Brothers" aired and another, more vulnerable, facet of Lore's personality was revealed - the very same facet I was attempting to explore and develop in this book. While the incidents and discoveries that occur in the episode required me to go back through the novel and make some changes, I didn't begrudge the time and effort involved. From start to finish, My Brother's Keeper was a labor of love. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
