Reactions and Reviews

1993

I read something similar a while back that had the same premise. This was pretty good, though. [1]

I found McCoy's role in this story disturbing. His broad hint that records show Kirk to be bisexual shows a lax attitude toward patient confidentiality. This is unethical. I also couldn't believe that McCoy would say that Spock could deduce Kirk's sexual preference from Kirk's belief that he had raped Spock. As a Doctor trained in psychology, McCoy would know that rape is a hate crime that shows hostility. It has nothing to do with sexual preference. [2]

...why is it so difficult to portray McCoy as concerned without making him nosey? Doctor or not, an uninvited intrusion into a friend's private quarters is stepping over the bounds.[3]

Kirk awakens to a massive hangover in Spock's bed. There is evidence of sexual activity and Kirk can't face Spock with what he believes happened. Nice little story, carefully explored. This is a good, strong Spock who is comfortable with his sexuality even though he has doubts and fears about being with Kirk. Excellent beginning of Kirk waking up in bed and discovering what was going on. It slowly unfolded, drawing the reader along with him. [4]

Another good story from this author. This one was a little too short for me but I liked the plot - Kirk believing that he had sexually attacked Spock, only to find that the Vulcan was not quite the innocent he had believed. The scene with Spock and McCoy was nice with the doctor trying to relay confidential information to the Vulcan without really coming out and betraying a confidence. And I also enjoyed the scene where Spock finally tells Kirk the truth. I just wish this story would had been a few pages longer. [5]
