Mucho, Macho?: A PROTEST SONG is a 1981 filk (to the tune of "A Man's a Man For A' That") by Roberta Rogow.
It was printed in Rec-Room Rhymes #2.
A similar filk was also published in Rec-Room Rhymes #2: see The Editor's Dilemma: Kiss by Feyrer.
The topic of the filk was slash fanworks and their appeal to some fans, something of which Rogow was outspoken in her dislike.
The Lyrics
- Where are the fans that used to write of aliens and all that?
- Instead, they choose to talk all night of men, and men and all that:
- And all that, and all that, they're curious and all that;
- The tales they tell will curl your hair, your eyebrows, teeth, and all that!
- A man may be a Captain bold, who steers his ship, and all that.
- He needs a Vulcan hand to hold, to comfort him and all that;
- For all that, and all that, the Enterprise and all that --
- With Kirk and Spock around to care, the world is safe for all that!
- A man may chase the evil crooks, and drive his car and all that.
- He needs his partner's blond good looks to keep him far from all that;
- From all that, and all that, Los Angeles and all that —
- A Zebra-three of a different stripe for Starsky, Hutch and all that!
- A man may be an agent brave, with gadgets, guns and all that,
- He needs a friend of aspect grave, to help him run from all that;
- From all that, and all that, their U.N.C.L.E. badge and all that.
- Napoleon met his Waterloo when Illya went for all that!
- A man may be a tough old cop, who hides himself from all that,
- A younger man can help hop off the shelf to all that;
- For all that, and all that. It's Harry, John and all that —
- The Frisco scene is not the same since Harry came to all that!
- And so they write, and write they well, and others read, and all that.
- And they believe the tales they tell with others breed, and all that;
- And all that, and all that, they're fantasies-and all that —
- So please remember, ladies fair — a man's a MAN for all that!
