Motion/Perennial is a femslash rarepair from Friends at the Table's PARTIZAN season. In canon, Motion and Perennial are both Divines (machine-gods) with decidedly post-human embodiments. Motion serves the empire that created her, enlisting an undead army into war and violence, while Perennial is known to that same empire as its ultimate adversary. Despite their oppositional roles, it is implied that Motion and Perennial know each other and do not straightforwardly hate each other.

In Friends at the Table fandom, the few fanworks centred on this ship tend to explore this complex dynamic, looking at the differences in the two characters' philosophies and worldviews. Some fanfics portray Motion and Perennial coming to love each other but still finding themselves unable to abandon their respective ideologies or what they see as their missions.

History

Only a few Motion/Perennial fanworks exist, and most were created by or gifted to Aglennco (a.k.a. meowclops); Aglennco was likely the originator of the ship.[1] The first Motion/Perennial fic, Aglennco's show me something interesting, was posted to Archive of Our Own in January 2023.[2]
