Moffson is a combination of The Moffatts and Hanson. The term is used to refer both to crossover pairings between the two bands, and the larger trend of the two fandoms overlapping quite a bit.
The term has been in use since at least 2000, when attempts were made to organize a book of fanfic, fanart and more for the two fandoms.[1] A blog post suggests that a Devil Angel fan named Mali coined the term, but provides no evidence or proof.[2]
Moffson was a well known term by 2002, being used in the title of the fic The Moffson Tapes.
