Some Comments
While at Timestorm I got up to date with the latest zines from Queensland. And there were a stack of them! First up were issues 20 to 24 of Mistfall, which are increasingly very much worth getting apart from Peter Shaw’s art — so you can take that as a massive recommendation! Great stuff — but the sooner the story that sees various Doctors killing off ex-Mistfall editors finishes, the better! The Queensland club have also recently "recovered" some classic zines from the early Eighties: issues 5 of both Adventures in Time and Animal Husbandry along with I’ve Got A Big Scarf, What About Me Hat? With remarkably prescient (but seemingly stupid) lines, a crap typewriter and tongues very much in cheek, these A5 zines guarantee a laugh! And then they have a newsletter called Chromakey as well! Reactions and Reviews: Issue 16
This issue came in an a sealed bag, with Ace on the cover complaining about the smell of it. Either I had a blocked nose, or they forgot to flavour mine! Anyway, to the content: well, variable. You get a big chunk of club stuff, some sensational layout, and over a dozen Peter Shaw comics, legend that he is. Unfortunately, they’ve been poorly scanned for this issue, lowering their impact. Full of opinions and silly things; this issue also has a report by an extra in Downtime, the upcoming Yeti story. Rating: • • • • out of five. [2]

- a "Save the Galaxy Again" game

Reactions and Reviews: Issue 17
Mistfall continues to balance the zine and club stuff well. The creative part includes a fascinating article on just what the structure of the TARDIS might be, a "Save the Galaxy Again" game and a detailed look at the Stranger series. Elsewhere, the Most Demeaning Use of Dead People in a Script, the Most Wasted Characters Developed in a Long Time, and the Most Appalling Use of the Doctor in a Story awards all go to Revelation of the Daleks. But why the editors are congratulating themselves for doing everything on the computer is beyond me – half the pictures, and just about all the artwork, is worse off for it. Issue 18
Mistfall 18 was published in 1996.
Reactions and Reviews: Issue 18
It’s big! Finally we’re seeing a page count top match the price of Mistfall. And a fine piece of work it is too — main things of note are the interview and photos from video-maker Bill Baggs and a running comic joke by Peter Shaw, while the snippets from the previous 17 issues of Mistfall are hilarious. And — get this — Mistfall said nice things about Kate Orman. Wow… Rating: • • • • (out of 5)[4]

Reactions and Reviews: Issue 19
... lots of bits in pig Latin to confuse us all. Don’t worry, dear reader, there is a logic behind it all, and the comic by Peter Shaw certainly makes it worth it. This guy is a wonder! This issue also sees a professional graphic designer doing the layout, and it shows. The thing is GORGEOUS! Apart from Peter’s comics still being somewhat poorly reproduced, this is almost certainly the best-looking zine I’ve ever seen. Plus there’s great writing within, and I’m on my way to delivering a record three 5 Mary Whitehouses out of 5 for this column! [5]
